The Weather Channel story about toxins in the Basin

The Weather Channel story about toxins in the Basin

FRRACS has been fighting to protect the community from Enbridge’s compressor station for nearly 7 years now, but the compressor station isn’t the only problem. For decades, the Fore River Basin has been a dumping ground for toxic waste, as it’s been home to nearly a dozen industrial facilities. Many people who live in the Basin have suffered various illnesses, and it’s quite possible that the cause of some of those illnesses has been the pollution from these facilities. Our board member, Judy Roberts, is one of those people. Judy grew up in Quincy Point and raised her son there too. To her shock, she was diagnosed with lung cancer despite living a very healthy lifestyle and never being a smoker. Judy is healthy today, but the diagnosis came as a shock and left many questions in her mind as to what may have caused it. Judy shared her powerful story with The Weather Channel, as well as our story to protect the Basin from pollution. You can read the full story — A Slight Increase in Risk.

AG Healey and the Future of Gas program

AG Healey and the Future of Gas program

The Marvelous Margaret strikes again! Margaret spoke with AG Healey today about the future of gas program in which FRRACS is a stakeholder. This nonsensical and poorly named program that is SUPPOSED to help shepherd the Commonwealth away from gas is actually being run by....wait for it....the gas industry!! Anyone is welcome to join in the fun of the monthly meetings. Go to https://thefutureofgas.com/involved for more information on that.

In the meantime, enjoy our Margaret at about 29:50 on this recording: https://www.wgbh.org/news/local-news/2021/10/29/boston-public-radio-full-show-10-29-21?fbclid=IwAR3nG-mlb2ouwixrqKkYPV-a8DeCGRP0VzqKIQ51Nt0_PYhBqhUGCbQqg4s

Our arguments against Enbridge and the DEP in the continued BACT analysis case were heard today in the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals. This is the continued case against Enbridge and their abettors at the MassDEP for their negligence in the use of a gas turbine instead of an electric motor drive for the compressor station.

You can listen to the audio of today’s oral arguments here, at about 1:11:35.

Enbridge to begin excavating pipes today

Enbridge to begin excavating pipes today

A diagram of the big dig starting today at the Enbridge Compressor Station. Over the next 5 months, they will dig trenches all around the site uncovering all the gas pipes they put in. Even though operating since January, the pipes were not protected from corrosion from salt water. (WE TOLD THEM THIS WAS A BAD PLACE TO PUT A COMPRESSOR STATION!!!) They will install cathodes over every gas pipe after excavating them which will provide electronic protection from corrosion. The digging in the toxic coal ash (AGAIN!!) poses potential health problems to the nearby residents.

Action Alert: Commenting to FERC

Action Alert: Commenting to FERC

FERC is reviewing the certification process of fracked gas facilities and is seeking input from the public during this review.

How can you take action? Write a comment in response to any of the questions that FERC has listed in the. We have also provided some sample responses; feel free to use them as a guide to submit a filing to FERC. We do suggest personalizing them a little so that FERC doesn't disregard form responses.

How do you submit your filing? You may have submitted comments to FERC before for some of our other action items, but eFiling is a little bit different. Our good friend Cathy Kristofferson has provided us with this detailed how-to eFile with FERC. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us: nocompressor@gmail.com
