Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station alerts the public to the status of the Weymouth compressor station

Local community organization and its members display their new banner--Out of Order--at the Enbridge compressor site

Weymouth, MA-The Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station (FRRACS) gathered this morning at the Kings Cove Park and the Fore River Bridge to let the residents of the South Shore know that the Enbridge compressor station is presently "out of order."

On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Enbridge experienced its third accident in eight months at the as yet to be operational compressor station. According to Enbridge they released 11,430 standard cubic feet of methane and 3.19 pounds of volatile organic compounds (VOC). VOC are toxins such as benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde. Enbridge noted that the Department of Environmental Protection allows it to release 3 tons of VOC per month under their current permit.

Enbridge has declared "force majeure," or an Act of God, and has notified their customers that the station is currently not operational.

Margaret Bellafiore, FRRACS Board Member, said, "The Enbridge compressor station has had three accidents within just a few months. Our residents have no trust in Enbridge's mantra that 'safety is our highest priority.' FRRACS tells it like it is--it is not safe. It is Out of Order."
