Andrea Honore relaunched her sit-in at the Governor’s office after the release of the faulty HIA and MassDEP’s approval Enbridge’s air quality permit. She has been sitting in the Gov.’s waiting room nearly every afternoon on her lunch break for over 90 days (the first term of her sit-in was in 2017). Gov. Baker has not spoken to her. In fact, his staff states that “Gov. Baker does not meet with constituents.” Andrea was on The Take with Sue O’Connell on NECN to talk about Gov. Baker and the compressor station. Governor Baker is heading to Congress this week to testify on the issue of climate change. We find this somewhat perplexing given the fact that he supports fracked-gas, you know, one of the fossil fuels contributing to climate change. We thank the Town of Braintree for submitting an appeal to MassDEP in response to their granting of an air quality permit for Enbridge’s proposed compressor station. Enbridge has proven to us yet again that they are not a safe, reliable company. Incident after incident, Enbridge deflects blame and fails to adequately respond to danger. It just keeps getting better. This compressor station is "out in a field." But that is not the worst of it. In weather that is colder than Antarctica, people in Michigan are being threatened with no heat due to an explosion at this compressor station. A major storage tank is beneath this compressor and cannot be accessed due to the explosion. We hold the affected people of Michigan in our thoughts. And ask the powers that be if they understand "circular" problems: methane gas emissions cause climate change, climate change caused the polar vortex, the polar vortex is causing the use of more methane, which is causing climate change....." Commissioner Cheryl LaFleur announced on Twitter that she will be stepping down from her role at FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). This leaves the commission with only one democrat, Commissioner Flick. No reason was given for her departure but we sense that it is not good news. Utility Dive has more on this story here.

Um, listening? We've been talking for 4 years. We have had a private meeting with PHMSA. They not only told us how and why they could not/would not help, they sold us out to Algonquin by letting them (Algonquin/Spectra/Enbridge) know that they met with us. Then Algonquin used this information to lie to Coastal Zone Management that there had been a PUBLIC MEETING with local safety people. NOPE. Just 3 of us in a room with a Ms. Karen Gentile from PHSMA. All of us representing FRRACS.

Call Gov. Baker and ask him: "Where are you, sir?" Here's his number: 617-725-4005. It’s been four years since we started this fight. Four. And Gov. Baker has yet to travel 20 miles to the South Shore to visit the proposed site. If he saw it, there’s no way he could continue to make excuses for this project. All of our local elected officials have both been to the site AND have spoken out against the dangerous project. Charlie Baker is alone in his silence. We call on him to speak out against the project, and we call on him to visit the site.

The Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility released a response to MassDEP’s and MAPC’s Health Impact Assessment. They state that ‘“The Weymouth compressor station represents a significant risk to human health.”’ We thank them for voicing their concerns about this invalid, destructive HIA.

The Town of Weymouth and FRRACS have both filed requests for rehearing on the extension of the FERC certificate. FERC granted Enbridge’s request for an extension on Dec. 26, 2018, within 40 minutes of receiving the request. You can read more about FERC’s decision here.

Action Item -- Call Governor Baker at 617-725-4005 and ask him about the valve in Weymouth that caused RI to lose gas. Another week, another two gas pipeline related incidents on Enbridge lines: an explosion in Ohio and a pressure drop in Rhode Island caused by a valve in Weymouth, leaving thousands without heat for days. Enbridge continues to prove that they are not safe or reliable.

Alice Arena, a Weymouth resident and member of FRRACS, gathered with local community activists at the State House today to get Governor Baker’s attention. Governor Baker’s aides continue to insist that he “doesn’t meet with constituents”, so we are left to wonder: who does he meet with? Execs from Enbridge? We deserve to know AND we deserve to have an opportunity to speak with our governor.

A natural gas line feeding into Aquidneck Island in RI was shut off on Monday, leaving more than 7,000 customers without access to gas for their homes. New reports have found that the drop in pressure at the end of the line may be linked to a frozen valve at Enbridge’s Metering and Regulating station in Weymouth.
