Gov. Baker responds to vacated air quality permits
/During Governor Baker’s daily briefing today, a reporter asked him about the recent vacated air quality permit for the compressor station, and how his administration plans to respond. Gov. Baker completely dismissed the issue and referred to us as the “locals”, while stating that we “didn’t want a substation” (the first circuit made their decision to vacate the permit because Enbridge neglected to do an analysis for the use of an electric motor vs. a gas turbine for the compressor). You can watch a video of Baker’s response here.
This is what we have to say to Governor Baker:
Big face-slap emoji required here. Gov. Baker, can we talk? You need to stop either lying or making yourself look dumb. A) the substation in question is ONLY required for the use of an electric motor as opposed to the current use of a gas turbine in the compressor station. B) who told you the "community" didn't want the substation? It was never offered. Your DEP neglected to do the required BACT (let us spell this one out for you--Best Available Control Technology) analysis, and it was this same DEP who allowed your buddies at Enbridge to skirt the issue. We can send you the transcripts if you need something to read. C) #TheLocalsSay that they are so unbelievably tired of your disdainful attitude over their "worries." Your inaction on just about everything in this state got us Lawrence and Andover--who, by the way, have never been made whole. #TheLocalsSay that their "worries" are founded in volumes of facts concerning the horrible safety track record of Enbridge, their rights to clean air water and soil under the Constitution of the Commonwealth , and their right not to be blown to smithereens by a misplaced piece of gas pipeline equipment. And, finally, D) maybe if you had cared enough to get involved and understand how this whole thing works we would not be questioning your truthfulness or intelligence right now. We have a website. Go there. Learn.
