The Patriot Ledger - Film about health impacts in the Fore River Basin to debut Tuesday (link)

Thanks to the Ledger for helping to spread the word about the premiere!

Excerpt: “Last spring, the group set out to identify and interview former and current Fore River Basin residents who say they believe that decades of pollution from their industrial neighbors have caused serious health problems, including cancers, asthma and autoimmune disorders.

The group canvassed North Weymouth, East Braintree, Quincy Point and Germantown and found residents who say living in the industrial area has made them sick. The group then compiled their stories into a short documentary.

In the film, Dr. Philip Landrigan, director of the Global Pollution Observatory at Boston College, says the compressor station will release both benzene and formaldehyde.

“Both cause cancer,” he said. “The commonwealth of Massachusetts has acknowledged that these chemicals will be released into the atmosphere.”

Algonquin received initial approval for the compressor station in January 2017 from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The company also needed several state permits, all of which were granted by regulators despite vehement and organized opposition from local officials and residents.” (The Patriot Ledger)
