In May, the Weymouth Conservation Commission (ConCom) denied a wetlands permit to Spectra Energy for the Compressor Station proposed under Atlantic Bridge. This was after multiple public hearings, and with strong opposition from the Mayor's office, elected officials, and the community at-large. After careful consideration, the ConCom voted unanimously to deny the Order of Conditions.
Now, Spectra has filed an appeal with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), in order to seek approval of their wetlands permit. In short: they are asking the State to overrule our Local Commission.
On Tuesday, July 12 at 10am, Spectra will be at the compressor site along with representatives from MassDEP. We will be there, too. This is will be a silent and peaceful demonstration of our support for the ConCom and their well-reasoned decision to deny Spectra the permit. Bring signs and make yourself highly-visible, but this is not a protest– we are there to support the hard-work of our Commissioners and Conservation staff.
We understand that this is on a weekday morning, but if you can attend, please do (and invite your friends and neighbors, too).
If can't make it, please complete the form below and we will compile responses and send as a "Petition" to MassDEP.
