Great news, folks! MassDEP has issued a stay on our appeal of Spectra's waterways permit. This comes after the their decision to place a stay on the wetlands permit. The list of permits currently on hold has now grown to 4: wetlands, CZM, air quality, and waterways. The fight is not yet over, but this is certainly something to celebrate!

On Tuesday night, FRRACS spoke in front of the Braintree Town Council to present data on air quality and our concerns regarding current levels of pollution. Dr. Nordgaard discussed the results and Mike Lang and Alice Arena spoke in more detail about our efforts to stop the compressor station. We are grateful the Council took the time to listen to our concerns, and we are hopeful that the dialogue will continue.

Nearly a year ago today, Coastal Zone Management (CZM) issued a one year stay on their review of the compressor station. They explained that they needed to obtain more information from Spectra, before they could conduct a review. That decision was issued on August 3, 2016. Today they have announced that they will be extending the stay by six months. This is excellent news, and will continue to hold up the project. You can read the letter here or below.

MDN often name-calls activists and members of the public for their efforts to oppose the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure; this week they took aim at us. It doesn't bother us, in fact, it shows that our organizing is working and that we're getting under the skin of the gas industry.

Breaking his silence on the compressor station and making the request for health assessment is a good step, but it's not enough. We had a great "No Compressor" standout this week! Today was the first day at the new location - the corner of 3A and Green Street in North Weymouth. A big thank you to all who came out - in the heat - to hold signs and bring more attention to the compressor station fight.
Occupy Hingham hosts the weekly standout every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30pm at the corner of St. Jerome's Church in North Weymouth. All are welcome to join.
This week also marked the first prayer circle at the site, following the standout. Community members will be meeting at the compressor site (6 Bridge St.) every Wednesday at 6 pm through the month of August. Feel free to join, faith or no faith.
