“Several city councilors and Mayor Thomas Koch have vowed to continue fighting a recently built natural gas compressor station on the banks of the Fore River in Weymouth despite a deal between Weymouth and Enbridge, the company that owns the compressor.

Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund signed a deal with Enbridge that will provide the town with $10 million upfront and potentially $28 million in tax revenue over the next 35 years. As part of the deal, Hedlund had to agree to drop any outstanding lawsuits the town has against the company regarding the Atlantic Bridge project, which the compressor station is part of.

Over the last several years, Weymouth filed two dozen lawsuits and spent more than $1.6 million in legal fees trying to stop the project. Several other communities have also stepped up to oppose the project, including Braintree, Hingham and Quincy, which spent more than $100,000 on its own legal battle.” (The Patriot Ledger)
