Help us collect 310 Elves to put in the park!

We are marking the (second) start-up of the Weymouth compressor station by inviting people to create or decorate an Elf effigy to be placed at Kings Cove Park, 82 Bridge Street, Weymouth, beginning on December 1, 2020.

This art installation seeks to collect three hundred and ten Elves of all kinds within the park by December 20.  Each Elf will represent ten children who live in the immediate area of the toxic compressor station. The Gathering will culminate in a special service to be held on December 20th beginning at 3:00 PM.  All are welcome to attend.

On Wednesday November 25, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration gave Algonquin (Enbridge) the green light to begin operations after an investigation was completed on the two accidents that occurred during commissioning in September. According to Algonquin, the compressor will begin full operations on December 1 at a 20% reduced capacity.

FRRACS member Lisa Jennings said, “The public park at Kings Cove will soon be rendered a hazardous place for humans with the fire-up of this disastrous compressor. We are asking people to create Elves to populate the park in order to visualize its impacts on the many people who live, work, or travel in this area.  We are asking the Elves to stand ground where it is dangerous for people to do so.”

Have an elf and want to add it to the collection? You can put one up in the park (84 Bridge St., Weymouth), mail one to us (FRRACS, PO Box 485, S. Weymouth, MA 02190), or drop it off it our weekly standout (Wednesdays at Weymouth Town Hall from 2:30-3:30pm). Feel free to email us with questions — nocompressor@gmail.com
