All Hands on Deck -- List of Action Items to Stop the Compressor

Yesterday, Hearing Officer Jane Rothchild once again sided with the polluter over the people. She issued a thumbs up decision to Enbridge on both the Wetlands and the Waterways appeals. These decisions will go to Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Martin Suuberg for his final decision on the permits that Enbridge seeks.

There will be NO retreat from any of the fighters on the ground. There are multiple actions being planned and much for us to do together. We will need your help more than ever as we move forward to end this dangerous and unnecessary compressor station project. Here is how you can help:

  • Sign the pledge. Go here to let us know what you are able to do to support the effort to end the Weymouth compressor.

  • Call Commissioner Suuberg--again. Encourage him to see the moral imperative to stop this compressor station. Whether you talk about health, safety, or the environment, remind the Commissioner that he is charged with providing all citizens of the Commonwealth with clean air, water, and soil. Go here for the phone number.

  • Help staff the lookout at the compressor site. We have begun keeping watch at the North Parcel on a daily basis. If you have some time during the day--any time at all--to go to the site and watch for any activity. To sign up for days and times, go here.

  • Attend a nonviolent civil disobedience training as soon as possible. Our next training will be on Tuesday, October 22 at 6:30 pm at the Fore River Club in Quincy. To sign up, go here.

  • Send a letter to TRC regarding the contamination of the site. TRC presented their plan regarding the clean up of the site at the recent PIP meeting in Weymouth. The contamination of the site is tremendous. Arsenic, asbestos, oil, and more contaminate the North Parcel. TRC plans to disturb this soil and send these toxins airborne in the Basin. Let them know this is unacceptable by sending a letter with your objections to their plans. Go here for more information. Comments are due by November 6, 2019.

  • Be there on November 1 to show solidarity against any construction. We will be on the site early on November 1, the purported construction start date of the compressor station. Go here to let us know you can join us.

  • Join the Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility in a "white coat" action at the State House on November 1. Go here for more information. The GB PSR plans to let Governor Baker know what he is doing to the health of the people of the Basin.

Most of all, do not despair. We will be filing in Superior Court on both of these permits should Commissioner Suuberg continue on the path of making the wrong choice on the Weymouth compressor station. We will fight until Enbridge recognizes that their ill-conceived project will not be tolerated here in Weymouth.

Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do. You inspire us.
