New data show more air quality violations

Last month, local residents organized a 24-hr testing of VOCs at the compressor site and on Evans St. The data was analyzed by Environmental Analytical Service, Inc., a certified lab in California. The results present more concerns about the current level of pollutants in the Basin.

Benzene was found at both sites, at levels more than double the MassDEP guidelines. High levels of toluene and xylene were found on Evans Street, and carbon disulfide was found next to the proposed compressor site.

Some of the toxins found are known carcinogens,  including benzene.

The data are quite concerning and have been shared with officials at MassDEP. A more detailed analysis of the results will be available soon. For now, you can read this summary in the Patriot Ledger.
