Governor Baker is coming to town on May 7. Governor Baker also supports the pipeline tax, which will cost ratepayers nearly $8 dollars. So we are going to be at the event peacefully protesting his support of the pipeline tax, and the compressor station.
Join us Saturday, May 7 at 1:30PM. We will meet at Abigail Adams Middle School and walk over to Legion Field for an event that starts at 2pm.
Bring some signs and invite your friends and neighbors!
What's the deal with this pipeline tax? We've provided a summary below:
National Grid and Eversource have petitioned Gov. Baker's DPU to institute a Pipeline Tax to be figured into the rate structure of EVERY electric bill for the residents of Massachusetts. This tax is to pay for the as yet unbuilt and unnecessary pipelines and compressors of Kinder Morgan and Spectra. This is unprecedented for a rate increase to be established prior to a build-out. The amount would up to nearly $8 billion!
The people of the Commonwealth will pay for the infrastructure of private corporations, own none of the infrastructure for which they have paid, and have no guarantee of lower prices in the future or even of receiving any of the gas coming through the pipelines. The majority of this gas, whether Spectra or Kinder Morgan, is headed for Canada to be off-shored on the world market.
If we can stop the pipeline tax, it's possible that we can stop the pipelines and compressor, too!
