Rally in the Park: No More Toxic Gas
November 15 | 10 AM | Kings Cove Park - 50 Bridge Street, Weymouth
Join FRRACS on Wednesday, November 15 for a rally in Kings Cove Park, in opposition to the operation of Enbridge’s compressor station. We are gathering to say “No More Toxic Gas”. The compressor station is spewing toxicity into the community, despite the lack of the need for the gas or facility, and while a key license is being appealed in court.
In addition to the unnecessary operation of the compressor station, there has been news about a new Enbridge project called “Project Maple”. Though not much is known about the project currently, we do know that any expansion of fracked gas or other fossil fuels will exacerbate the climate crisis. If Project Maple moves forward, it could lead to the expansion of turbines at the compressor station. Currently, Enbridge is in “open season” for Project Maple, which means they are seeking customers who would buy the additional gas. We have voiced our opposition to the project proposal and will continue to do so.
During the September 26, 2023, segment of “Ask the Governor” on GBH’s Boston Public Radio, Governor Healey was asked why the state is still supporting the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure, despite the state’s climate plan to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. In response she said, “No new fossil fuel power plants. No new fossil fuel transmission lines, ok? We don’t want any of those pipelines.” (Boston Public Radio, beginning at 02:41:45).
On November 15, we will gather to speak out against the compressor and any efforts to expand the burning of fracked gas. Light refreshments will be provided. Parking is available near the park (maps below).
UPDATE: The Red Rebel Brigade will be joining us! The Red Rebel Brigade is an international performance group dedicated to highlighting the global climate crisis. They joined us at the site a few years ago — view photos here.
Parking: Kings Cove Park is accessible via the access road that is located under the Fore River Bridge. You can park in the small lot next to the park entrance, indicated on the map as “North Parcel” lot or on the other side of the access road in the lot labeled as “Lovell’s Grove”. If both lots are full, cars can park on the edge of the access road, as indicated by the yellow lines below.
