Car Parade to Shut Down Construction

  • Quincy Point Congregational Church 444 Washington Street Quincy, MA, 02169 United States (map)

Car Parade to Stop the Construction of the Weymouth Compressor Station

We invite you to join us on May 2 for our third car parade to stop construction of the Weymouth compressor station. Although we can’t meet and gather in groups, we can still collectively take action to stop Enbridge from harming the community. We are demanding that Governor Baker and Mayor Hedlund take action to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by shutting down construction of the Weymouth compressor station. And, in light of recent news that Enbridge came back to town with a $10 million blood money offer, we are urging Mayor Hedlund to refuse the deal.

The car parade will commence at Quincy Point Congregational Church (444 Washington St., Quincy) and will proceed to the construction site. We will conclude at Weymouth Town Hall. We invite you to join us (social-distantly)!

Important Things to Note:

  • Please wear masks!

  • Please, one to a car unless you are with your spouse/partner/roommates.

  • Please decorate your car before you arrive! Place 8.5x11 signs on the back passenger window on the driver's side. Do not place signage in your back window or on your dashboard as the police may stop you for an obstructed view.

  • Ideas for signage (which you can handily make with your printer)--Stay Safe-No Compressor; Enbridge Violates our Public Health, COVID-19 Sacrifice Zone; Don't Take the Money from Enbridge; People's Health is Priceless; You Can't Put a Price on the Health of a Community; Mr. Mayor: Do Not Sell Us Out!….or whatever you come up with!

  • Watch out for walkers and joggers

Route of the Parade (scroll down to view maps of the route):

  • From Quincy Point Church, we will drive straight on 3A, towards Weymouth. The car parade will go over the Fore River Bridge and will enter the access road by turning right immediately after the bridge (the Calpine side).

  • Cars will follow the access road under the bridge and past the compressor station construction site. From there, cars will take a right turn to get back onto 3A, then go over the bridge, go around the rotary on the Quincy side and loop back onto the bridge, turning onto the access road again.

  • The parade will make three loops around the site. At the end of the third loop, cars will turn around at the rotary, go over the bridge to Weymouth to the first traffic light on Evans. Turn right on Evans. Then:

  • Follow Evans to Pearl Street stop sign, right on Pearl.

  • Pass the Historic Burial Ground and the Abigail Adams House  (on your left).

  • Pearl Street becomes Norton Street at the Rotary.

  • Go straight through the rotary; Norton Street becomes North Street.

  • Go under the railroad trestle and get in the left lane to continue straight; North Street becomes Commercial Street

  • Follow Commercial Street to Middle Street bearing right onto Middle at the Cannon.

  • Turn right onto Academy Ave. just before Town Hall.

  • Turn left into the upper Town Hall lot, left down the Abigail Adams School driveway, left onto Middle Street in front of Town Hall, left onto Academy.  Rinse and repeat 3 times

  • On the 3rd pass behind Town Hall, pull into the lower parking lot off from the Adams School driveway and park. At this point, we will gather while keeping a large distance for a final rally.
