The battle over the Wetlands Permit has not neared its end.
Please join us on Monday, October 17, at the Mass DEP's Southeast Regional Office in Lakeville for a pre-hearing conference on the Wetlands permit.
In May, as you may know, the Weymouth Conservation Commission denied Spectra's request for a Wetlands permit. In turn, Spectra filed an appeal with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, requesting a Superseding Order of Conditions, or SOC. Before the MassDEP began their review, the public was allotted a few weeks to submit public comments on the issue. Dan Gilmore, of MassDEP, reviewed all of the materials and within a month revealed their decision: they approved the SOC, subject to certain conditions. One of those conditions being that they seed their work space areas, upon project completion. Obviously, not the outcome one was hoping for. The ConCom then submitted an appeal and the MassDEP will review this appeal at the "Pre-hearing." It is likely that Spectra will want the the town to accept a settlement on Atlantic Bridge.
You can read the official MassDEP Scheduling Order here.
We'd like to have as many people as possible to come and observe and bear (silent) witness. We recognize that it's weekday morning, but if you know anyone who can go, please spread the word!
Join us on Monday, October 17 at 10AM and invite your friends and neighbors.
We will not be allowed to speak, but our presence will still have a strong impact. You can wear your "No Compressor" T-shirts, too, if you'd like.
Prior to the hearing, we are asking folks to contact the town and urge them not to not take any deal from Spectra. Please email and call the Mayor! Sample scripts below:

Hello,
I understand that there is an upcoming pre-hearing conference on October 17th to try to force the town to come to an agreement with Spectra on the Atlantic Bridge project. As a resident of Weymouth/concerned individual, I request that the town comes to no agreement with Spectra in regards to Atlantic Bridge. There is no compromise that is acceptable. The protection of our wetlands and environment is of the utmost importance to me.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
